Prayer Vigil for Cassie

Hey, readers! Today I would like to share a special message with a special request attached to it. My dear friend, Cassie, is leaving on a mission trip to AFRICA next month! I am requesting love and prayer for her and the rest of her team. They’re going to need it!

Matthew 28:19 says, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,” (NIV). That is exactly what Cassie and her team will be doing with their time in Africa — spreading the love and message of our Savior Jesus Christ with those who may never have the opportunity to know Him. Please join me in praying for Cassie during her time away!

A message from Cassie…

I have been called by God to go to Africa this summer. Help me by giving donation of LOVE, offerings, prayer and blessings by giving hope to the immigrants in South Africa and the 710,000 orphans in Zambia.

By doing this you will help spread the word of Jesus Christ among the people who haven’t been touched by Gods loving hands. We plan to leave Snyder June 9th and depart the U.S. June 11th and return home on August 2nd. While on this mission to South Africa we will show them kindness as we distribute blankets, help with gardening, chop wood, and even pluck chickens. While in Zambia we will become a mentor and leader as an older ‘brother’ or ‘sister.’ Live among them in tents, cook over open fires, and sacrifice everything to show these overlooked children that God has not forgotten about them. To make this possible i need help reaching my goal of $5,362. Any amount you are capable of giving will be greatly appreciated.

By blessing us you are also blessing yourselves; not only by helping the immigrants and orphans in Africa you can also use this as a tax right off.

Thirty Things: Week One

I’m starting a new blog project! I got the idea from a friend and fellow blogger and it seemed like a lot of fun. It’s called Thirty Things and the series comes from Jessi at HOPESandDREAMS. Every Tuesday for the next thirty weeks, I’ll be posting from Jessi’s list! I’m doing it every week as opposed to every day because I figured it might be an easier way to keep me accountable while still being able to write about things I want to write about. Read on to check out the complete list and for this week’s post!

The first week’s task is to list 20 random facts about myself. All right, here goes! You’ve been warned……..

1. Fight Club is one of my favorite movies of all time. Most people say, “Really?” with a very confused look when I admit this. I can’t explain it. I love this movie! It never fails, I notice something else about it that I hadn’t before every time I watch it!

2. My favorite color is green. Bright (NOT lime), grass green. Think a football field in September.

3. I used to want to be an Aggie, but in my entire life, I have owned ONE Texas A&M t-shirt. I bought it on a judging trip in high school which also happens to be the only trip to College Station I’ve ever taken in my life. It was pink and had Psalm 75:10 (I will cut off the horns of all the wicked, but the horns of the righteous will be lifted up. NIV) on it. Two years later I was accepted to Texas Tech and never put that shirt on again.

4. My first concert was 98 Degrees.

5. I played golf for two years in high school. I was awful.

6. I wish I hadn’t been so responsible in college. I’ve never really screwed up (though I make mistakes every day!) and that sometimes makes me feel like I haven’t really lived.

7. In fourth grade, I wanted to be a lawyer and go to Harvard.

8. I have known my best friend for 18 years and counting. In kindergarten, we didn’t get along.

9. I listen to all kinds of music — lots of rock, classic rock, country, Texas country, even some rap and hip hop. I try to appreciate all genres of music and don’t judge people based on musical preference. ALL music is a form of art and what we’re drawn to is what makes us unique.

10. I have a huge family. It doesn’t matter to me that I have three step brothers, a half brother and a half sister — to me, they’re all 100% my family. I wouldn’t have it any other way.

11. I wish I were as crafty as I seem to be on Pinterest.

12. I am an independent distributor for a health and wellness company called AdvoCare.

13. I’m really into chevron and yellow and gray right now. Yellow and gray chevron? Even better.

14. The Bravo show, The Real Housewives of New Jersey, is a serious (sometimes embarrassing) guilty pleasure of mine. I LOVE THE MANZO FAMILY! Especially Albie.

15. I love working out. I try to work out at least five days a week. Sometimes I fail, but I am leaps and bounds ahead of where I was a few years ago.

16. I love fashion and I love outfits that make a statement. But, that said, I usually stick to my standard jeans and tee every day. I’m not brave enough to actually wear these on myself.

17. I just recently bought my first pair of wedges. I’m now a former nay sayer! Wedges are a girl’s best friend.

18. George Strait’s Amarillo by Morning is one of my favorite songs of all time — and my absolute favorite to dance to.

19. I love organizing, but I’m incredibly disorganized and messy. Controlled chaos, I say. I’m working on that.

20. I love my dog! I think she was sent to save me and I don’t know what I would do without her! Her name is Pippa. Yes, she’s named after that Pippa.

High Five for Friday!

WHOA! I really can’t believe it’s already Friday. WHERE has the week gone? I need some time back, please. Just don’t give me Monday. You can keep Monday! Yet again, I’m linking up with Lauren at From My Grey Desk for High Five for Friday. Check out my week below, then grab a button and link up!

1. It’s my mom’s AND my dad’s birthdays! As you might remember, there are lots of April babies in my family!! Read here and here. Happy birthday, Mom! Happy birthday, Dad! I love you both more than words can say!

Today after work, I’m packing up, throwing the dog in the car and heading to the country to spend the weekend with these awesome people! I’m pretty excited to be home and I’m also looking forward to the mini road trip the drive will entail.

2. Saturday night, I went out (which I rarely do). We had a lot of fun and it was good to actually loosen up for once. On our way back to the car, we passed an open-patio-type bar and heard a song by our favorite Texas country band — The Casey Donahew Band. “Is that live?” I asked. “No, we would know if they were here,” Amanda said (pictured with me below). “Well, that sounds live,” I said.

Turns out, they were live! But they were playing a private party, so we didn’t go in. We danced on the sidewalk. People were walking by and looking at us like we were insane, but we cared not! Another good thing about this night? My dress is from Wal-Mart and it cost $13 and some change. Truth.

3. Last night, I got to have dinner with my best friend! She was in town to pick up her wedding shoes (her wedding is seven weeks from Saturday!) and then heading to DFW for her final dress fitting.

Sadly, we've been dealing with a lot of drama from David's Bridal over the last few months!

4. Something happened this week that reminded me all at once to be thankful and grateful for what I have and to always follow my heart. When I feel something stirring inside me, that’s not stupidity or naivete. It’s God placing something on my heart and telling me to do something about it. The situation brought to mind one of my favorite verses which describes the woman I continually strive to be.

³ Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. ⁴ Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight. 1 Peter 3:3-4 (NIV)

5. I found this gem in the $5 movie bin at Wal-Mart. This was one of my faves growing up. I’m not sure I understood all the underlying themes — I just loved seeing a young Reese Witherspoon. But as I got older, it remained a favorite! And for all my fellow Hunger Games lovers, it was directed by Gary Ross. Gary fans, where y’all at?!
